The Fontana Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce
A new gripping drama written and directed by Ruben Amavizca,
the creator of Frida Kahlo and Malinche. Eve Muller and Liane
Schirmer translated the English version.

The Women of Juarez is the story of a mother searching for her
missing daughter. The case of the women of Juarez begins in
1993. Since then, over 500 women have been reported missing
and the bodies of 318 murdered have been found. The majority
of the victims are dark-skinned young women, factory workers.
The young women are kidnaped and raped repeatedly by more
than one person, tortured, mutilated and murdered.

Jim Crogan of the LA Weekly writes: "This production focuses on
the grief of one stricken family. The casting of the family unit is
first-rate. Arely-Lorena Araniva played the effervescent but
star-crossed Maritza, a teenage factory worker who disappears.
Likewise, Juanita Devis displays a devilish sense of humor as her
younger sister, Chayo. Ingrid Márquez and Pedro Ortiz portray
with dignity their hard-working, grieving parents who find their
marriage strained to the breaking point. Amavizca's often moving
play highlights a critical and largely unknown issue."
